SCEDO Hosts Legislative Dinner

2012 Legislative DinnerSanta Fe -  Jan 30, 2012

A fun and productive dinner last month with Lt. Governor Sanchez, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Charles Daniels, almost every Cabinet Secretary, and many of our State Legislators including Sen. John Arthur Smith and Rep. Dianne Hamilton. Speakers included George Whitesides, CEO Virgin Galactic, Dr. Rick Holdridge, Chairman of Spaceport America Authority Board and Andre Douchane, CEO THEMAC Resources (Copper Flat Mine). Most importantly, 70 of our fellow citizens and leaders from Sierra County attended.

Spaceport Dedication Ceremonies

SCEDO awarded USDA GrantLooking skyward, more than 800 guests marveled at Virgin Galactic’s commercial space vehicles as they soared through the skies of southern New Mexico during the dedication ceremonies of Virgin Galactic’s new home at Spaceport America. The flight of WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo was the highlight of a spectacular ceremony which featured the dedication of the Sir Norman Foster-designed building and announcements of new scientific and educational customers for the world’s first commercial space line.

Virgin Galactic Industry Day

SCEDO was pleased to attend the Virgin Galactic Industry Day on 10/18 and set up a display table to meet with the 150 attendees, most of whom were potential contractors from all over the Country. Combining forces with the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA), SCEDO was joined by Xacta Printing(the first local Virgin Galactic supplier), Tom Burris; Superintendent of Schools and D. Rush; CEO of Sierra Vista Hospital.

Regional Business Enterprise Grant Presented to SCEDO

On Tuesday, August 9, 2011 SCEDO was pleased to welcome many guests including U.S. Senator Tom Udall and Terry Brunner, State Director of USDA Rural Development-New Mexico for the presentation of the USDA Regional Business Enterprise Grant to help Sierra County establish its first Small Business Incubator Center at the SCEDO offices. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared in this ceremony with us.

NASA Picks Seven Firms for Commercial Sub-Orbital Flight Services

Under its Flight Opportunities Program, NASA has selected seven companies to provide suborbital flight services to the agency. Winners include Armadillo Aerospace, Near Space Corp., Masten Space Systems, Up Aerospace Inc., Virgin Galactic, Whittinghill Aerospace, and XCOR, but the commercial space flight industry is happy as well.
