Transportation and Highways

New Mexico's location provides accessibility to the West Coast, Gulf Coast, and national market centers. There are three interstate highways that transect the state, a statewide network of railroads that connect New Mexico with regional and national markets, and airlines that provide regular passenger and cargo service to the state's major communities.

New Mexico's enjoyable climate ensures dependable transportation systems, allowing industries to deliver goods promptly.

The state's Freeport Law provides assurance that items stored while in interstate commerce will not be taxed. The state constitution allows a tax exemption for personal property transported in interstate commerce or consigned to a warehouse or factory in New Mexico from outside the state for purposes of storage, manufacturing, processing, or fabricating and which is in transit to a final destination outside the state.

There are 63,905 miles of highway, and three interstates that service New Mexico:

I-40 - Latitudinally crosses the state through Albuquerque.I-10 - Serves Los Angeles and the Texas market; travels across Southern New Mexico and intersects I-25 at Las Cruces.I-25 - Longitudinally North to Denver and Canada and South to El Paso and Mexico, intersecting I-40 at Albuquerque and I-10 at Las Cruces.


NEW MEXICO AIRWAYS

There are over 240 airports, landing strips, and launching areas in New Mexico. Sixtyone airports are located near metropolitan areas and are listed on the state aeronautical chart. Twenty-nine charter operators and two commuter airlines serve the public into these locations and throughout the Southwest. Scheduled air service is available through 13 airports. Albuquerque is the main arrival and departure point for New Mexico with direct flights between DFW and Roswell.

SIERRA COUNTY

Sierra County is strategically located in the Southern Rio Grande Trade Corridor. The Pan American Highway, Interstate 25, bisects the County from north to south. Interstates 1-10 and 1-40 transverse New Mexico east and west and are easily accessible from I-25. The Santa Fe Railroad serves Sierra County with the Engle rail station and is scheduled to participate in intermodel facility at Santa Teresa Port of Entry. The Sierra County Municipal Airport is equipped to handle shipping and residential air traffic. In addition, the airport offers jet fuel and AV gas, DTN weather service, hangers and tie downs.
